(KJCE) Google has taken steps to shut down a massive "phishing" scam that targeted users of its Google Docs service Wednesday.

The scam involved fake e-mails purportedly sharing a document from the Google Docs service, attempting to get unsuspecting users to click on the attached link. In this particular case, all of the e-mails showed a "To" address ending in mailinator.com.

Several Central Texas school districts use Google for various services; a few had fallen victim to the scam over the course of Wednesday afternoon. Once the scam has access to an account, it can use the contacts list in the account to spread itself and send additional e-mails out.

Google announced late Wednesday it had taken steps to disable the scam.
