Texas Re-Opens: What's opening Friday, May 22

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- As Texas continues to move into the second phase of re-opening the state's economy, here's a look at businesses that are allowed to re-open or expand their operations beginning today, May 22:

  • Restaurants are able to expand to 50% of their indoor dine-in capacity. Outdoor areas aren't included in the occupancy limits, but still need to be able to maintain social distancing.
  • Bars, breweries, and wine tasting rooms can open at 25% capacity. Tables can seat a maximum of six people, no one can be at the bar or other serving areas, and dancing is discouraged.
  • Bowling alleys, bingo halls, and skating rinks
  • Rodeos
  • Natural caverns and aquariums

These newly opened businesses join the list of other businesses that are currently allowed to be open in some form:

  • Retail stores & malls
  • Movie theaters
  • Hair, nail & tanning salons
  • Gyms
  • Office space
  • Factories
  • Child care centers
  • Youth clubs
  • Massage parlors
  • Tattoo shops

The final pieces of Gov. Abbott's second phase will go into effect through the end of the month, including:

  • Zoos, on May 29
  • Day & overnight youth camps, on May 31
  • Youth sports, on May 31
  • Some professional sports, without spectators, on May 31
  • In-person summer school, beginning June 1
