AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Travis County will close all of its parks - including boat ramps - for the July 4 weekend, officials announced Monday.

The move comes following a recommendation from Travis County Judge Sam Biscoe to local governments across the five county metro area.

In a letter to local leaders, Biscoe wrote that "we simply cannot afford missteps at this stage which could exacerbate the risk of overwhelming our healthcare system."

Travis County says parks will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, and will not re-open until Tuesday, July 7, at 8 a.m.

Officials say if the COVID-19 threat continues to rise, the park system may remain closed beyond July 7, until further notice.
