AUSTIN ( -- A weak tropical low just offshore in the Gulf of Mexico could bring us our first significant rain chances in a while.

While the low has little potential to turn into a tropical depression or storm before it moves onshore, it will bring rain to the southeast Texas coast. While the Houston area will likely see the bulk of the rain, the I-35 corridor could still see an inch of rain between now and Friday.

Thursday will likely bring the best chance of rain to the Austin area, with scattered showers today and Wednesday.

Even without the rain, temperatures will drop into the lower 90s across the area. Heat index values, though, will continue to soar into the lower to mid 100s.
