AUSTIN ( -- Authorities are investigating a deadly single-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 35 in San Marcos Saturday night that left two dead.

San Marcos Police say the crash happened at 7:42 p.m. in the 200 block of Northbound IH-35. Witnesses tell police the Ford Explorer SUV left the interstate and flipped multiple times, landing on the east frontage road and ejecting nine of the ten occupants from the vehicle.

24-year old Destiny Bridges was pronounced deceased on the scene. 31-year old Sean Thompson succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Seton Ascension Hospital in Kyle.

Police believe the driver was the only occupant wearing a seat belt.

Three of the five children, ages 7, 8 and 9, were transported by medics to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin and are currently in critical condition. Two other children, ages 8 and 10, did not require hospital care and were released to relatives.

Police are continuing to investigate. Speed and a blown tire appear to be factors in the crash, and police say the vehicle was only suited for five passengers.

The deaths are the fourth and fifth traffic fatalities for 2020 in San Marcos.
