UPDATE: Man shot on South Congress died, police say

(Austin/KJCE) A man shot Friday morning on South Congress has died, police say.

Austin Police responded to 611 South Congress Friday morning just after 7:00 a.m., after receiving multiple calls to 9-1-1 reporting shots fired. When officers arrived, they found 51-year old Van Kevin White, who had sustained obvious trauma to his body. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, began resuscitation efforts, and transported White to University Medical Center at Brackenridge. He later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads. Based on information currently available, APD does not believe the public is at risk in relation to this incident. No arrests have been made at this time.
