AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A rare December heavy rain event is setting up over the Austin area, bringing the potential for flash flooding in the next 24 hours.

A Flash Flood Watch goes into effect at noon and will last through Saturday morning. Forecasters say anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain could fall from I-35 eastward.

Rain will clear out towards Saturday morning, setting up a cold but dry pattern through the weekend and the first part of next week.
