WILLIAMSON COUNTY (Talk1370.com) -- County parks and trails will be closed in Williamson County this Easter weekend, a day after the City of Austin announced similar actions to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The closures will go into effect at sunset on Thursday, lasting until sunrise on Monday, April 13.

"The safety and welfare of our citizens is of utmost importance right now. Parks are popular places and the crowds we typically see on holidays, like Easter weekend, leave minimal opportunity to practice social distancing. The health risks are just too great not to close our parks and trails,” said Williamson County Parks and Recreation Director Russell Fishbeck.

County officials say gates at the following locations will be closed, locked, and barricaded:

  • Berry Springs Park & Preserve, 1801 Co Rd 152, Georgetown
  • Champion Park, 3830 Brushy Creek Rd, Cedar Park
  • Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, 219 Perry Mayfield, Leander

Signage at access points will remind residents that access is prohibited. Parks staff on duty will also be patrolling parks.
